Vietnam vet, David Moore, tosses hat in ring to try to unseat Duncan

SENECA - Salem resident and Vietnam War veteran David Moore has announced his third-party candidacy for the Third Congressional District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Moore is running as the American Party of South Carolina candidate against incumbent Rep. Jeff Duncan, R-S. C., in the 2018 midterm elections. Moore and Democrat Mary Geren, an English professor at Tri-County Technical College, will try to unseat Duncan to represent 11 counties, including Oconee and Pickens counties.

If elected to Congress, Moore plans to work on an issue he said Duncan has failed to address: reforming the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

"Overall, Mr. Duncan is a career politician, which I oppose because that's not what the Founding Fathers intended," Moore told The Journal on Tuesday. "He definitely does not respond to veterans. I'm a Vietnam vet and hooked into the veteran community, and veterans always say the same about Mr. Duncan."
Moore served in the Army as a volunteer radio operator in Vietnam and paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne. He received the Bronze Star Medal for heroic service.
